Sometimes you’ll open Outlook and then for no apparent reason, it will freeze or shut itself down. There are quite a few different causes for this, but one of the most common is a defective add-in. Here’s how to disable add-ins in Outlook even when it keeps crashing. If you can't choose any of the menu options, type inside an email message, calendar event, or contact, Outlook may have frozen. There are three steps you can take to try to get Outlook working again. Find solutions to common problems or get help from a support agent.

If you’re still having problems, you can try resetting your Windows Firewall settings back to default. Once the add-ins are disabled, close Outlook 2016 and restart the application normally to check whether it now opens as normal or not. You can determine if it's corrupted by creating a new profile and changing which profile is used when Outlook starts.

But the problem arises when you don’t know the correct way of doing it. If this method works, try disabling your add-ins and any recent customizations that you may have made in Outlook to permanently fix the issue. You might have either fixed your Outlook or the issue persists. If the issue continues to trouble you, then you have to continue with the solutions mentioned below.

You can also add the secondary connected accounts (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) in Outlook.com as additional accounts in the Outlook profile. Not something you want to take on lightly, but sometimes you have to. Similar to our earlier suggestion of repairing Office (see #3 Repair Your Microsoft Office above), perform the same steps except choose to Uninstall. Be aware that you may need your product key if you received one.

Although it's not possible at the moment to turn the feature off entirely, you can choose to remove it from your favorites list by right clicking the folder and selecting Remove from Favorites. To help you get rid of these duplicates, we have released a fix which will automatically clean up your contact list. This fix will clean up duplicate contacts for end users starting August 9, 2023. Rollout of the fix to all users will take few weeks, so, some users may see the fix applied by the end of September.
